HoHo's, Ding Dongs and absolutely, Twinkies are coming to a grocery store near you-without the unions that once made them. Will they taste differently? I don't know.
Hostess Brands LLC is cutting ties with the Teamsters baker's union. The new company will hire 1500 new workers, far less than the 19-thousand workers in under the previous business model. The union says their workers are the best people to get those Twinkies machines up and humming...a work force off the street won't be able to do it.
To be fair, it's well-documented that people unfairly blamed the union for incompetence by the previous Hostess management team. Jury is still out on this decision. Let's wait about a year to hear from these new Hostess employees about pay and working conditions. Unions can act like idiots, but they were initially created to keep companies from acting like jerks.
I'm glad I still have a box of Twinkies my Mom bought after I made my first Confession in 2nd grade. They're still tasty!!
