When it comes to advancing his partisan agenda, Barack Obama barely waits for the bodies to cool.
Like the Washington Navy Yard shooting.
While families and coworkers gathered to pay their respects to the 12 people murdered by a registered Democrat, Barack Obama gave his spiel for gutting the Second Amendment.
When people shoot up a mall in Kenya, our president says it’s terrorism. When a guy shoots up a workplace in America, our president says it’s the guns.
And as people engaged in legitimate mourning Sunday shed a tear and shared their memories, Barack Obama said we had to change our gun laws. When are we going to do something, he asked rhetorically, when is this society going to change?
Which was an interesting exploitation.
Or, more correctly, an immoral whoring of the tragic death of innocent people.
Innocent people, by the way, who may not have agreed with his message.
Much less approved of their violent murder being shilled to advance an agenda they themselves might have seen as an attack upon their rights.
Let’s think this through.
The dozen people murdered were employed in the defense industry. At least four of them were retired career military.
Which brings up some interesting stats.
About 80 percent of retired military folks vote Republican and believe in the private ownership of guns. Some half of them are members of the NRA.
The people murdered also were largely from the South – another hotbed of gun ownership.
And here you have Barack Obama using their memories to attack a civil right. Most of them spent their entire adult lives in defense of the Constitution, and the president used their deaths to attack it.
Like his old chief of staff said: Never let a good tragedy go to waste.
Of course, the hypocrisy of it all is that there is a greater likelihood this carnage could have been forestalled with fewer gun restrictions, not more.
Since Bill Clinton, the private possession of firearms has been outlawed on federal military reservations. That includes the Washington Navy Yard.
That makes them targets.
The Nidal Hassans of the world can feel pretty safe shooting up a waiting roomful of soldiers because he knows they’re unarmed. Ditto for the dirt bag who shot up the Navy Yard last week.
Getting rid of guns doesn’t make you more safe, it makes you less safe – and we’ve got the dead bodies to prove it.
If the workers at the Washington Navy Yard had been allowed to carry personal guns – if district ordinance and military regulation had allowed them – there’s a fair chance last week’s gunman would have been the second person shot.
Again, the workforce at the Navy Yard is comprised of a very large number of active duty sailors and an equally large contingent of retired sailors. Amongst the victims were retired senior naval officers, men more than trustworthy and capable enough to be armed.
But they weren’t.
Not because of the NRA.
Not because the gunman was hearing noises.
Not because of a gun show loophole.
Not because of vile Republicans in the House.
Not because of racist Tea Party activists.
But because of gun-banning Democrat policies. Just like the ones Barack Obama is now advocating.
Having caused the problem, the big-government, small-liberty Democrats are now intent on making it worse.
But that is accidental.
That is an unintended by disregarded consequence.
The real target is freedom.
Government grows like cancer, and it is always tied in inverse proportion to the individual liberty of the populace. The stronger the government, the more enslaved the people. The freer the people, the more restrained the government.
Barack Obama and his party believe in the government, and have contempt for the people.
Or more precisely, they have contempt for the people’s freedom.
And so, policy after policy, they forge the chains of big government around the neck, wrists and ankles of the people. They do this by extinguishing, liberty after liberty, the individual freedom of the people.
And by substituting counterfeit liberties.
Like the right to an EBT card and subsidized college loans. The progressives deceive people into selling rights for entitlements, liberties for securities, tomorrow’s national strength for today’s welfare cheese.
And so it was that the president walked across the graves of murdered Americans – some of whom were lifelong servants of the nation – in order to exploit their deaths for his own power-aggrandizing scheme of popular subjugation.
He wastes the lives of Americans in Benghazi and then pimps the deaths of Americans in Washington.
That’s the Obama way.
The NRA guy was right.
The bad guy with the gun was able to do so much damage because there weren’t enough good guys with guns.
And Obama wants to make sure it stays just that way.
