2 Dead,9 Hospitalized After Exposure At Syracuse's Brighton Towers

Syracuse, N.Y. - Syracuse Police were called to Brighton Towers Tower #2 6th floor Wednesday morning to investigate two bodies.

When they arrived they found the two bodies and a woman who was taken to the hospital for what they called and “altered mental status.

During the investigation first responders began to become ill.

Three police officers, one firefighter and one ambulance worker were rushed to Upstate Hospital after exposure to an unknown substance. After they arrived a nurse at Upstate also started feeling ill.

In total 9 people were treated due to exposure to the substance.

Out of caution the 6th floor was evacuated as the investigation is continuing.

Officials say no one so far, who had not entered the apartment, has taken ill or been treated.

Mayor Ben Walsh, confirmed there was a spike in overdoses over the weekend, specifically in the downtown area.
