Albany, N.Y. - Governor Hochul has signed a new law strengthening existing restrictions on imitation weapons. The law says the fake weapons must be easily identifiable to Law Enforcement and others.
They can not be black, blue, silver or aluminum, but instead must be made of bright colors or entirely transparent.
Limited common-sense exceptions are being made for special uses, such as theatrical productions.
According to the AG's office, there have been at least 63 shootings in New York State as a result of individuals mistaking imitation weapons for real firearms, 8 of them fatal.
