Onondaga County Officials Encourage Testing As COVID Deaths Rise By Nine

Syracuse, N.Y. - The number of Onondaga County residents who have passed away after contracting COVID-19 has grown by nine.

County Executive Ryan McMahon says the latest victims died over the holiday weekend, bringing the death toll since the pandemic started to 946. There are currently 148 people hospitalized for treatment of the virus which is the highest total since last January 27th.

With case numbers still growing, McMahon will be revealing new testing initiatives later today. The Carrier Dome is opening as a COVID-19 testing site. People can get tested for the virus between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. from Sunday through Friday.

There is no need to schedule an appointment and folks who want to get tested should enter through Gate N of the Dome. Parking is available at both the Raynor Avenue Lot and Irving Garage.
