Two Mosquito Pools Test Positive For Jamestown Canyon Virus

Syracuse, N.Y. - Onondaga County Health Department has announced that lab results show the presence of the Jamestown Canyon virus in two mosquito pools.

One positive came from Midler Ave area in Syracuse, the other Onondaga Lake Park in Liverpool. This is the first finding of the virus in Onondaga County since 2014. Many people who contract the Jamestown Canyon virus have no symptoms and do not get sick, but some may experience fever, headache, fatigue, cough, and sore throat.

In very rare cases it can develop into encephalitis. The best prevention is to avoid getting bit by mosquitos.
