Onondaga County Moves Closer To Buying Shoppingtown Mall

Syracuse, N.Y. - Onondaga County moved closer to purchasing Shoppingtown Mall and some of surrounding lands.

The Onondaga County Legislature today, approved the county’s proposed $3.5 million purchase of the mall. The vote was 17-0.

The county along with the Town of Dewitt and Jamesville-Dewitt School district are looking to buy the Mall. The town and school district, would share $1.2 million of the purchase price. Neither of those two have officially approved of the deal yet.

As part of the settlement the county will also forgive nearly $11 million in taxes owed by Moonbeam Capitla Investments Inc, the current owner of mall and land.

The deal requires approval from a bankruptcy court.
