Gov Cuomo Signs Police Reform And Issues Executive Order

New York City,N.Y. - During his daily COVID 19 briefing, Governor Cuomo spent more time talking about police reform in the state of New York.

He signed police reform legislation for New York, and issued a new executive order aimed at changing policing in communities across the state.

Under the New York State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative, police agencies and local governments across the state are each being required to develop a plan that "reinvents and modernizes police strategies and programs".

Topics such as use of force, crowd management and implicit bias are some of the issues leaders will be required to evaluate. Community participation will be required.

Local governments and police departments will be required to enact their plans by April 1, 2021, or risk losing state funding.
