State Lawmakers Seek Pet Shop Pet Sales Ban

Albany, N.Y. - State Lawmakers are considering bills that will keep pet shops, from selling pets.

The Senate bill bans retail pet shops from selling dogs, cats or rabbits. It would take effect the middle of next year. So far Maryland and California along with hundreds of municipalities nationwide that have similar laws on the books.

A spokesperson for the Governor says that Cuomo is interested in any bill that would better protect pets. Cuomo signed the nation's first ban on cat declawing last year.
