Scirba, N.Y. - The Oswego County Health Department says a Scriba resident was attacked by a fox.
The person is receiving rabies treatment after being attacked, over the weekend. The fox was captured and is being tested.
The Oswego County Health Department says rabies can be prevented by vaccinating pets, staying away from wildlife, and seeking medical care after potential exposure before symptoms start.
As rabies seems to be high in Oswego County and surrounding counties, pet owners should make sure their dogs, cats and ferrets have current rabies vaccine.
Oswego County will have rabies clinics on the following dates:
- Granby: Wednesday, July 10, 6 to 8 p.m., Town Highway Garage, 820 County Route 8;
- Volney: Wednesday, Aug. 14, 6 to 8 p.m., Bristol Hill Landfill Maintenance Garage, 3125 NYS Route 3;
- Pulaski: Wednesday, Sept. 11, 6 to 8 p.m., County Highway Garage, 957 Centerville Road; and
- Scriba: Wednesday, Nov. 6, 6 to 8 p.m., County Highway Garage, 31 Schaad Drive.
