State Lawmakers Could Lower The Bar For Drunk Driving

Albany, N.Y. - Legislation pending in the state Assembly could lower the threshold for someone to be considered drunk behind the wheel.

The bill would lower the legal blood alcohol level for Driving While Intoxicated from .08 to .05. The threshold for the more serious Aggravated DWI charge from .18 to .12.

Supporters say the tougher restrictions could reduce crashes and save lives. Though critics warn the legislation could hurt the economy. They argue two glasses of wine with dinner at a restaurant could put someone over the limit.
