State DEC Confirms Toxic Algae May Be In Skaneateles Lake

The state confirms that there may have been toxic algae in Skaneateles Lake.

The information from DEC is being shared with the City of Syracuse based on testing they have been doing.  Results confirm the presence of cyanobacteria HAB's this past Saturday and Sunday.  However, this doesn't confirm the actual presence of toxins in the lake.  Test results to confirm that are due later this week.  The Skaneateles Lake Association says reports over the weekend of blooms at the north end of the lake appear to have dissipated by Monday.  Exposure to algae blooms and toxins causes  diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, skin, eye, or throat irritation and allergic reactions or breathing difficulties.
