The Top 5 for 7/16 - The Putin and The POTUS parlay

The much-awaited Helsinki summit is finally here, France celebrates the World Cup, and Central New York is back in the steam bath again.

Here are "The Top 5 Things You Need To Know Today" for Monday July 16, 2018:

1)

THE POTUS AND THE PUTIN SHALL PARLAY AND POOP ON THE PRESS

President Trump and Russian strongman Vladimir Putin finally meet in Helsinki today. They'll hold a joint news conference (with very limited questions) afterwards. Mr. Trump is cautioning Americans to keep their expectations in check.

2)

THE MAN BEHIND ALI G. AND BORAT IS AT IT AGAIN

Comedian and performance artist Sacha Baron Cohen's new show Who Is America? finally aired on Showtime last night. Reviews were mixed, while many prominent people expressed dismay over being played. The guy has been pulling these stunts for several years; are people really that clueless?

3)

VIVE LA FRANCE!

France wins the World Cup (officially the Jules Rimet Trophy) with a 4-2 win over Croatia. It's their second World Cup (first time was 1998). They'll do it all over again in Qatar in 2022, and in North America in 2026, with the USA as primary host nation.

4)

ANOTHER QUIET NIGHT ON SALT CITY'S SOUTH SIDE

Syracuse police investigating a shooting that occurred just after midnight on Wood Avenue just off South Salina Street. 21-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, but the word is he is not cooperating with authorities. Interesting...

5)

WE ALL THOUGHT WE WERE DONE WITH THIS FOR A WHILE, BUT...

Not a "heat wave," but still... a scorching day Monday with temperatures in the 90's; the AccuWeather "Reel Feel" will be more like 101. Thunderstorms this evening and tomorrow, than it breaks for gorgeous days Wednesday and Thursday.
