The Top 5 for Monday 7/2 - So, when does Fall arrive?

The heat is REALLY getting on everyone's nerves, but LeBron James will have enough cash to air-condition an entire city...

Here are "The Top 5 Things You Need To Know Today" for Monday, July 2nd:

1)

THE THERMOSTAT IS STUCK UNTIL THE WEEKEND, AT LEAST

We are likely to get a break by Friday, but we're not the only ones getting baked. Most of the country is blazing hot, and there are actual blazes -- wildfires, lots of them -- out West. How would you like to be a firefighter in these conditions?

2)

THE POLITICS OVER THE NEXT SUPREME COURT NOMINEE IS HEATING UP...

...and we don't even have a name yet! President Trump will make his choice next week, and most GOP Senators want to confirm quickly -- but there are a couple possible exceptions, Senator Susan Collins of Maine, among them.

3)

MEXICO HAS A NEW PRESIDENT, AND THINGS COULD GET VERY DIFFERENT

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador wins big. The former Mayor of Mexico City is a very left-wing populist, polar opposite of our POTUS.  President Trump offered warm congratulations, but wait until these guys start talking about the border wall Mr. Trump really wants.

4)

JUST ANOTHER FUN-FILLED WEEKEND IN SALT CITY. ONE EXAMPLE:

Syracuse Police answered a call Sunday afternoon about a possible stabbing. The male victim, age 46, was accosted by a young Hispanic man on Butternut Street around 2 am. A dispute ensued, and the knife came out. Meanwhile, I have to wonder why it 14 hours for anybody to get around to calling the cops. Whatever...

5)

LEBRON JAMES -- NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT!

LeBron cashes in as a free agent, leaving Cleveland (again) for the Los Angeles Lakers, will reportedly get $154 million over four years. Wow. When Dolph Schayes joined the Syracuse Nationals (yes, we once actually had a real NBA team) his first-year salary was $7500!
