No More Swimming At Sylvan Beach

There will be no more swimming at Sylvan Beach.

The 125 feet of shoreline is still open to sunbathers but no one can go into the water. Signs are going up telling people they can no longer access the water from the public beach area.

The village decided to stop employing lifeguards starting this season after realizing that state health codes required them to patrol the entire 4,800-foot beach.

Sylvan Beach Mayor Greg Horan said that would be too costly.

The village had put up Swim at Your Own Risk signs around the beach, but these will be changed to No Swimming signs according to Horan.
