Common Council Defunds Land Bank, Mayor Is Hopping Mad

Syracuse's mayor is left fuming over a vote today by the Common Council to defund the greater Syracuse Land Bank.

Mayor Stephanie Miner says today's vote by the Council is a disappointing blow to Syracuse neighborhoods. She says the land bank has returned more than 440 previously tax delinquent properties to the tax rolls and had demolished more than 170 abandoned homes.

The mayor says the council's vote will allow these properties to become targets for crime and reduce property values. The city has seen 10 million dollars in increased tax collections since the land banks inception.
