Police Arrest Syracuse Man After Traffic Stop


On Saturday, March 25, 2017, at approximately 8:26pm, Syracuse Police Officers David Craw and Victoria Losurdo observed an unattended motor vehicle with its engine running, parked in the 900 block of West Kennedy Street.  When the operator of the vehicle, later identified as Jesse Hampton, 37, of 839 South Ave. Syracuse, returned to the vehicle, officers conducted a traffic stop of the car.  Officer Craw observed Hampton moving around inside the vehicle prior to police approaching the car.  While speaking with Hampton, Officer Craw detected the odor of burning marijuana emanating from the vehicle.  Hampton was then asked to step out of the vehicle.  As police conducted a search of Hampton’s person, a pill bottle fell out of his pant leg.  The pill bottle contained 20 plastic baggies containing crack cocaine, with a total weight of seven grams.  Seven grams of crack cocaine is equivalent to 70 doses and has a street value of $700.00.  Hampton was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.  Hampton was also issued a Uniformed Traffic Ticket for Unattended Motor Vehicle.  Hampton was lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center pending his arraignment.
