A Utica firefighter is suing the department on discrimination claims. John Brooks says that he's been harassed and threatened with disciplinary action for not cutting his hair, which he says is a part of his religion. Brooks has been a Utica firefighter for more than a decade and his father is the Fire Chief. Brooks is seeking an undetermined amount in damages through the federal lawsuit.
