(570 WSYR) The number of people without work in the Syracuse metro area has dropped dramatically. The combined jobless rate for Madison, Onondaga and Oswego counties fell from 8.9 to 7.4 percent in July. Karen Napick-Scalzo with the Labor Department in Syracuse says according to July 2013 figures, 300,600 people had jobs in the 3-county metro area, which is about 6-thousand more than July of last year. Napick-Scalzo also says the number of people looking for work in July fell to about 24,000. That's down from more than 28,000 a year ago. The Syracuse Metro area has generated more 4,000 non-farm jobs.
