Rob Edson, a long-time member of Syracuse University's athletic department and most recently athletic director at Onondaga Community College, has died of a suspected heart attack at 45.
Edson joined SU's athletic department soon after his graduation there in 1990. He worked his way up from intern to a senior associate athletic director position to chief financial officer. Then in 2011, he moved to OCC to become their athletic director. SU athletic director Daryl Gross said in a statement, "Rob was a tireless worker and an outstanding administrator." OCC president Dr. Casey Crabill added in a statement, "He continually demonstrated his commitment to building academic success and strong character in his players." Edson's wife Sue is SU's assistant director of athletics for communications. They have a son Thomas and daughter Tracey.
Calling hours for Rob Edson will be from 4-8pm Wednesday at the Eaton-Trumble Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Services will be at 11 am Thursday at SU's Hendricks Chapel. A scholarship in Edson's name will be created at SU for athletes who leave the school without a degree but return to earn it.
