SANDY CREEK, N.Y. (AP) _ A 14-year-old boy is being credited with rescuing three people from drowning as they struggled in rough waves off the Lake Ontario shore in central New York.
Mindy Macera of Watertown tells The Post-Standard of Syracuse she was swimming last Saturday when strong currents pulled her about 100 yards from shore in the Oswego County town of Sandy Creek.
As she struggled in the high waves, her fiance and the husband of a friend swam out to help her. Soon all three were in danger of drowning.
Hearing their screams for help, 14 year old Marshall Winn of Camillus jumped on his personal watercraft and came to their rescue. He tossed them two life jackets, then had them hold on as he towed them to shore.
